Zakat Calculator

Enter your total qualifying assets — cash, savings, gold/silver value, business inventory — and the nisab threshold you're using. The amount due updates as you type.

How it works

If total qualifying assets are at or above the nisab threshold, zakat due is simply 2.5% of the full total. Below the nisab, zakat due is $0 — not a smaller percentage, but none at all, since the obligation itself only begins at that threshold.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there a threshold at all, rather than 2.5% of anything you have?

Zakat is only obligatory once wealth reaches a minimum level called the nisab — below it, no zakat is due, at any amount. This is different from an ordinary percentage calculator: the 2.5% rate applies to the full amount once you're at or above the nisab, and to nothing at all below it.

Why doesn't this tool look up a current gold or silver price for the nisab?

This site makes no network requests anywhere, on any tool, so nothing here can fetch a live price. The nisab is conventionally based on the market value of a set weight of gold or silver, which moves daily — paste in a current figure from a source you trust, and this tool will do the arithmetic against it.

Does this account for the one-lunar-year holding requirement (hawl)?

No — the 2.5% rate is meant to apply to qualifying wealth that has been held for a full lunar year (hawl), and there are also rules about which assets qualify at all. This calculator only does the arithmetic once you have already worked out your qualifying total and the nisab you are using; it does not check eligibility rules on its own.
