Recipe Ratio Scaler

The scaled amounts update as you type.

Ingredients

How it works

Every ingredient scales by the same factor — target servings divided by original servings — because that ratio is what keeps a recipe the same recipe at a different size. Double the servings and every quantity doubles; a third of the servings, and every quantity drops to a third. The factor is computed once and applied to each row, so the proportions between ingredients never drift.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a scaled amount look like "0.67" instead of a fraction like 2/3?

This tool shows scaled amounts to a couple of decimal places rather than converting them into "kitchen-friendly" fractions like 2/3 or 1/3 cup. Deciding which fraction is practical depends on the unit and the tool in your kitchen — a scale reads decimals fine, a measuring cup wants eighths — and that judgment call is left to you rather than guessed at.

What if scaling down leaves a tiny amount, like 0.1 eggs?

The math still works — the ratio between ingredients is preserved whatever the numbers come out to. Whether it's practical to actually measure that amount (a fraction of an egg, a pinch under a gram of salt) is a kitchen decision, not a calculation one; rounding to what you can reasonably measure is normal.

Does this convert units, like cups to grams?

No — it only multiplies the quantity you enter, leaving the unit exactly as typed. If you need to convert what a scaled amount is in a different unit, this site's Volume Converter handles that conversion.
